Braille Literacy

Braille instruction is offered in accordance with a student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP). In the lower elementary grades, Braille is integrated with their academic classes. In the upper grades, individuals have separate classes in Braille depending on their needs

Contracted Braille (Grade 2) is taught along with the rules and applications. As soon as the student is proficient in Braille, he/she is required to do classroom assignments in that medium.

Braille music and Nemeth (scientific and mathematical notation) Code are also offered. The Nemeth Code is learned when mathematics is introduced; however, if the student is newly blind and needs a separate class, Nemeth may be taught as an individual course.
