Music Education

One of the best contributions WSBVI makes to a blind or visually impaired student’s life is its exceptional music training opportunities. Students receive not only classroom instruction with hands-on activities allowing them to examine various instruments, but the chance to learn and play any of them. Additionally, individual lessons are also available.

Because regular classroom teachers may be unaware of the special adaptations available, it may be difficult for them to provide for the individual needs of blind and visually impaired students. WSBVI excels not only in teaching vocal and instrumental techniques, but also in adapting musical scores to the media preferred by each student. Written music can be taught using large print or the Braille music code, which is not easy to master. Few Braille music teachers can be found in the state and WSBVI is privileged to have a teacher that is well versed in the Braille music code.
