Learning Ally

Learning Ally is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to providing educators with the resources they need to turn struggling readers into independent learners with access to the same books as their peers.

DCMP

The Described and Captioned Media Program provides premium media designed for students with disabilities and leads as a resource for families and teachers, supported by the Department of Education. Families and educators who have at least one student with a disability can register for free membership and access thousands of accessible, educational videos.

BadgerLink

BadgerLink is a free research tool licensed providing, among other things, magazine and newspaper articles for Wisconsin residents.

Free braille sources

American Action Fund for Blind Children and Adults

A program that provides children who are blind with a free braille book every month from a popular children’s reading series.

Braille Tales

A partnership between APH and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.  Families in the United States who have a preschooler who is blind (5 and under), can sign up to receive six free print/braille books per year up to the child’s 6th birthday.

Braille Institute Special Collection

A braille literacy program from the Braille Institute that provides children’s books free of charge.  Any child in the United States or Canada who is blind or visually impaired is eligible to receive up to 12 free books per year from the Special Collection. Teachers of the Visually Impaired and other educators may also subscribe.

National Braille Press:  Read Books! Program

National Braille Press distributes braille book bags to families with children, ages birth to seven, who are blind or visually impaired, across the United States and Canada.

Seedlings Book Angel Program

A program for children who are blind, in the United States and Canada, that provides up to three free braille books per year.

Certified Teachers of the Visually Impaired in the U.S. may order 4 free 1-volume braille books from Seedlings each calendar year.

Seeing Hands

Seeing Hands has a number of books that are available that include print, pictures, and Braille all on one page. These books are free of charge for individuals and family members that are blind or low-vision.

Wisconsin Braille’s Special Book Project 

Available to teachers and parents of the visually impaired and school librarians in Wisconsin, The Wisconsin Braille’s Special Book Project selects books for transcription that represent a wide range of reading levels, fiction and non-fiction material, and poetry. Print/braille books for young readers are included in each year’s selection.
