Each year, the Wisconsin Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired (WCBVI) holds events to celebrate the use of Braille. On Thursday, February 13th, 2020, students who are blind or visually impaired are invited to join us at our 21st annual BrailleFest! We will have Braille-related games and races, including the Braille Relay and Name that Contraction. This is always a great opportunity to connect with other students with visual impairments!
On Friday, February 14th, students are invited to take part in the International Braille Challenge. This is a competition sponsored by the Braille Institute of America, and allows students to compete with others of their age and grade level all over the United States and Canada. They test in Braille spelling, reading comprehension, proofreading, and, for older students, reading of charts and graphs, along with dictation in Braille. The top 50 finishers in the country go to Los Angeles for the finals in June 2020!
Registration is due by January 6th.
