Welcome to the "Guide to Selected Services for Blind and Visually Impaired Persons in Wisconsin". Compiled by the State of Wisconsin Bureau for the Blind, this Guide is a reference for anyone who needs information about resources to serve our blind and visually impaired population.
State of Wisconsin Employee Telephone Directory (Print Version - PDF Format)
The Wisconsin Division for Libraries, Technology and Community Learning has developed and maintains a library union catalog, known as WISCAT, that includes the holdings of all types of libraries in the state of Wisconsin. The current edition of WISCAT, one of the largest statewide union catalogs in the country, contains 7.1 million titles and over 30 million holdings from more than 1,274 contributing libraries. The catalog contains material in all formats, including books, serials, videorecordings, sound recordings and other audiovisual formats.

Wisconsin Public School Directory
The Wisconsin Public School District Directory contains basic information from each of the state's 426 public school districts. Information includes district name, superintendent, address, phone and fax numbers. When there is a post office box and street address, both addresses are given separated by a blank line. This data is updated bi-weekly.

The Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS) is committed to improving results and outcomes for people with disabilities of all ages. The Council strives to improve the well-being of all blind and visually impaired people by: serving as a representative national organization of blind people; elevating the social, economic and cultural levels of blind people; improving educational and rehabilitation facilities and opportunities; cooperating with the public and private institutions and organizations concerned with blind services; encouraging and assisting all blind persons to develop their abilities and conducting a public education program to promote greater understanding of blindness and the capabilities of blind people.
The American Printing House for the Blind
APH manufactures braille, large type, recorded, computer disk, and tactile graphic publications, as well as a wide assortment of educational and daily living products. APH also offers a variety of services to assist consumers and professionals in the field of vision, such as Louis, a database listing materials available in accessible media from organizations across North America. APH also has the APH News and Press that has helpful and current information.
Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) Document Center
AFB CareerConnect is a free resource for people who are blind or visually impaired to learn about the range and diversity of the jobs that are performed throughout the United States and Canada by adults who are blind or visually impaired.
Angel Flight is a group of volunteer private pilots who help people get somewhere for medical treatment or other purposes. Be it a child requiring access to medical treatment in another area of the country or an adult requiring travel due to a family crisis, Angel Flight Central attempts to match each special need with a volunteer pilot who can help. A call to our toll free voice mail system at 800.441.4563 in U.S., or an e-mail through this site will alert our Volunteer Mission Screeners of a need for free air transportation service. The screener will return the message and gather all necessary qualifying information.
Through their newspaper, annual conference, and Web site, Closing The Gap provides practical up-to-date information on assistive technology products, procedures, and best practices.
Audio description (AD) is the insertion of audio explanations and descriptions of the settings, characters, and action taking place in a variety of media. Audio description is added when information about these visual elements is not offered in the audio presentation of media. Thanks to the work of dedicated organizations around the world, audio description is now offered in movie theaters, live theater, school videos, entertainment videos and is making its presence felt in a variety of new venues.

The Ohio Center for Deafblind Education (OCDBE) is a federally funded project that provides Technical Assistance services within Ohio for individuals, birth through 21 years old, with combined vision and hearing losses.
Minnesota's Online Resource About Combined Vision and Hearing Loss
DeafBlindinfo.org is a vast collection of information and resources about combined vision and hearing loss, in Minnesota and around the world.
The general public has little knowledge about what it is like to be deafblind. People who are deafblind themselves have limited access to sights, sounds, and information. DeafBlindinfo.org, is designed to close the information gap for both populations. DeafBlindinfo.org showcases a vast collection of deafblindness information and resources in Minnesota and from around the world. Its Consumer Resource Guides aim to inform and empower adults, youth, families, and senior citizens with dual sensory impairment. The site's logo features many hands of different sizes and colors reaching toward an open book. Designed to represent making deafblindness-related information accessible, the image also draws attention to the human hand, used by deafblind people to communicate, listen, read, navigate, sense and shape their environment.
National Federation of the Blind
Founded in 1940, the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) is the nation's largest and most influential membership organization of blind persons. With fifty thousand members, the NFB has affiliates in all fifty states plus Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico, and over seven hundred local chapters. As a consumer and advocacy organization, the NFB is considered the leading force in the blindness field today.
National Federation of the Blind NEWSLINE
National Federation of the Blind NEWSLINE® is a toll-free service that uses synthesized speech to deliver an audio version of newspaper text through the telephone to those who are blind or visually impaired. The National Federation of the Blind (NFB) is changing the name of the service to NFBNEWSLINE and expanding the service nationwide. If you are interested in signing up for the service, please fill out an Application/Registration Form.
